About The Online Single UNIX Specification Version 2

The Online Single UNIX Specification Version 2, was developed on a mixture of UNIX systems, including UNIX System V Release 4.0, UnixWare 2.1.2 and Linux on my laptop. The conversion software from the original troff macros started as an awk script developed on a flight from London to Chicago and ended as a C programme and suite of shell scripts.

For the CD-ROM version, which also includes html and pdf versions of the whole specification, scripts were used to generate an ISO 9660 version with shortname filenames. ISO 9660 was used for the CD-ROM as a least common denominator so that it can be used on the widest range of platforms (UNIX, OS/2, Windows and Macintosh).
