DESCRIPTION

The Common Operating Environment (COE) provides a foundation for building open systems. It is a "plug-and-play" open architecture designed around a client/server model. It provides a standard environment, a set of standard off-the-shelf components, and a set of programming standards that describe how to add new functionality to the environment. The COE is designed to run on servers, workstations, and personal computers and provides the capability for applications to share data and services/functions at the server level.

Compliance to the COE Platform V2 Product Standard provides a level of assurance that the system shall:

This Product Standard is the foundation for the COE Platform V2 Certification Program.

CONFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

A single configuration of the system shall meet all of the Conformance Requirements as defined in the following constituent Product Standards:

The following general requirements shall also apply:

OPERATIONAL ENVIRONMENT

Refer to the Product Standards listed in Conformance Requirements.

PORTABILITY ENVIRONMENT

Refer to the Product Standards listed in Conformance Requirements.

OVERRIDING STANDARDS

Refer to the Product Standards listed in Conformance Requirements.

MIGRATION

The COE Platform V2 Product Standard is an evolution of the existing COE Platform V1 Product Standard. The major change in COE Platform V2 is alignment of the formal standards requirement with Version 3 of the Single UNIX Specification (for UNIX 03). The COE Platform V2 Product Standard is designed to be hardware-independent and should operate on a range of operating systems running standards-based systems.
