Conclusions
It has been shown that the object model defined by the OMG for object-oriented
software development and that defined by OSI Management for network
management are fundamentally aligned. There are, however, a number of
major, and a number of incidental, differences; some are complementary and
some are conflicting. In order for implementors of network management
products to be able to use development tools and run-time components meeting
OMG specifications, the conflicting differences will have to be reconciled.
Methods are proposed to achieve this: the development of run-time mediation
software; and the development of software to translate between the notational tools.
